ETA has three bodies to govern the association, namely Executive Committee, Central Council and General Congress. This governing bodies occupy leadership positions through election which is held every four year under normal Condition as clearly shown in its regulation chapter 4 Article 15.
This is stressed in the previously 20th Ordinary Council meeting held this year in Bahir Dar. It was underlined that teachers be encouraged so that they elect their leaders who assume leadership positions for the upcoming four years.

The 20th ETA Ordinary Council meeting was held in Amhara Regional State, Bahir Dar city from 11-15 October 2007. Members of the Council are four representatives from all the nine regional and two city administration Teachers' associations, chairpersons of zonal and special district teachers' associations across the country. After the welcoming address by president of ETA, H.E. Mr. Demeke Mekonnen , Vice President of the Amharic Regional State has made opening speech.

World Teachers' Day (WTD) is an important event celebrated by different activities across the world every year on 5 October to commemorate the signing of the UNESCO/ ILO Recommendation concerning the status of Teachers. ETA has been celebrating this event in collaboration with stake holders.
This years' WTD is special because ETA has planned the launching of panel discussion under the theme, "Bright hope through Quality Education in the New Ethiopian millennium" on this day to be conducted across the nation through out the year. ETA has organized a half day panel discussion at Ghion hotel to commemorate this important event. The panel was organized in collaboration with UNESCO and Ministry of Education (MOE). Participants were drawn from school teachers, Regional Teachers' Associations, Education Bureaus, MOE, and UNESCO, national and international non- governmental organizations.

National Education Congress is the meeting that convenes every year to evaluate the performance of the annual activities of the education sector in terms of access, equity, participation, quality, etc. in light of the education Sector Development Programe III (August 2005) in particular and the Education and Training Policy (launched in 1994) in general. This year the Congress was held in Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State at Asassa, located 673 km away from Addis Ababa to the western direction from 27-29 August 2007.

Ethiopia Celebrates her Millennium from 11September 2007 to 11September 2008. This is the 2000thYear for Ethiopian Calendar.
Ethiopia is the country which makes up more than eighty nations and nationalities coexisting together. In addition, citizens of Ethiopia are followers of various religions and as a whole it is the country of multicultural society leaving together. Ethiopia is a country with very many tourism areas.
The Ethiopian millennium is celebrated in such a way that it contributes towards peaceful coexistence respecting the rights of nations and nationalities by building democracy and work for accelerated and sustainable development. The start of a new millennium is a period in which all people of the country come together to create a new and better future. The new millennium is a period in which new ideas are developed and put into practice for our nation and for us all.
