A Three Days Regional Consultative Workshop on the main theme: Media Information Literacy (MIL) Curriculum for Teachers: Enhancing Teaching and Learning was held from April 27-29, 2011 in Adama, Ethiopia. The workshop was organized jointly by Ethiopian Teachers’ Association (ETA); Ministry of Education (MoE) of  the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE); and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).  The overall goal of the Workshop was to enhance the quality of student learning by way of enhancing the quality of education for teachers through adaptation and use of the Model MIL Curriculum for Teachers.

A total of fifty educators drawn from five countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Djibouti, Uganda, and Rwanda), and one from UNESCO, Paris and another from Philippines participated in the Workshop. Whereas the participants from outside Ethiopia were representatives with different backgrounds and capacities, those from Ethiopia are drawn from Colleges of Teacher Education, Ministry of Education, and UNESCO Addis Ababa Liaison Office.

Awareness creation workshop on Growth and Transformation plan conducted PDF Print E-mail

A two days awareness creation workshop was held from 11-12 February 2011 on five year (2010/11-2014/15) Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The workshop was organized by Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA) in collaboration with Ministry of Education. A total of sixty participants were drawn from University Teachers’ Associations, Regional Education Bereux, and Regional Teachers’ Associations.

Following opening remark made by Mr. Fuad Ibrahim, State Minister of General Education, presentations were made by Mr. Damise Shito, State Minister of Cabinet Affairs in the Prime Minister office on leadership in Ethiopia and by Mr. Temesgen Walelign, director of Development, Plan and Research Directorate, Ministry of Finance and Economic Development on the five year growth and transformation plan.

Organized by VSO Ireland in Doulin from 17-19 November 2010, Mr. Yohnnes Benti, President of Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA), who closely works with VSO Ethiopia programme office in Addis Ababa, was invited to participate in the meetings and activities to highlight the valuing Teachers work that VSO is doing internationally. The title of the research done in Ethiopia is “How Much is a Good Teacher Worth?”

The 23rd Annual Council meeting of ETA was held at Hawassa city, capital of SNNPR, from 14-16 October 2010. The opening speech was delivered by H.E. Mr. Shiferaw Shigute, Chief Administrator of Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR).

Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA), the oldest pioneer of democratic struggle for quality education, and teachers’ rights and benefits in Ethiopia, had celebrated “The October 5th World Teacher Day 2010 ” from 11-12 October 2010 at Hawassa, the capital of SNNP regional state, in collaboration with Hawasa University Teachers’ Association. Three hundred fifty participants from government officials, non-government organization representatives, teachers’ association leaders including all the universities and teachers attended the two days conference.
