ETA attended in Advocacy and Citizen Engagement training in Canada PDF Print E-mail

Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA) and VSO Ethiopia had established commendable relationship to attain their common objectives specific to teachers’ morale and provision of quality education to attain EFA goals. Because of the cooperation that exists between the two organizations, VSO Ethiopia country office has been organizing different experience sharing events from which the association benefited a lot.

In March 2011 a half day workshop was organized by VSO Ethiopia staff & ETA at ETA’s headquarters in Addis Ababa for base line data collection in March 2011 to set target for 2012-2014 and later, on 1st July 2011, another workshop was conducted in the same place for organizational capacity scanning. One of the areas identified as limitation was then related to organizational capacity of ETA.

ETA Council Passed Resolution PDF Print E-mail

The 24th session of the Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA) council was held in Dire Dawa city from 14-16 October 2011. Mayor of the Dire Dawa city has delivered opening speech where he welcomes all the participants to the city and called upon the councilors to work hard for effective implementation of the quality improvement package underway.

Representing the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Keba rgessa, State Minister for Higher Education, has also called upon the participants to keep the profession up to the standard, in his key note address. The Ethiopian Teachers Association headquarters executive

World Teacher’s Day 2011 Celebrated PDF Print E-mail

Every year, World Teachers’ Day is celebrated on October 5 all over the world to commemorate the signing in of UNESCO/ILO recommendation   concerning the status of Teachers which was adopted by the intergovernmental conference in 1966 in Paris. The day is also celebrated to commemorate the 1997 UNESCO recommendation concerning the status of higher education teaching personnel.

The theme of the year is termed “Teachers for Gender equality”.

It was celebrated by organizing a two days conference where by 15 research papers were presented by scholars.

Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA) organized the conference in Haramaya University, the second oldest university, located in eastern part of the county, in collaboration with consortium of three university Teachers’ Associations –Haramaya, Jigjiga and Dire Dawa.

National Education Congress held PDF Print E-mail

Education congress which convenes every year at country level was held from 4-6 September 2011 in Oromia Regional State, Adama town.

Before the plenary meeting in the above mentioned dates participants were divided among three groups to discuss on General Education, Technical and Vocational Education and Training as well as Higher Education sectors. Then after, State Ministers of the respective sectors have presented their conclusive report to the congress. Ethiopian Teachers Association has presented its report to the congress on successes made and problems encountered in attaining its stated objectives.

Science fair conference conducted PDF Print E-mail

Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA) works to defend teachers’ rights and advocates for education. As part of its objective to promote education, ETA has projects, one of which is related to improving science and mathematics education.

Ethiopian government is implementing its ambitious five year Growth and Transformation plan (GTP) and one of its focus areas in terms of education is the so called 70/30 program mixes where by 70% of the secondary school students who pass secondary school leaving certificate   go for science stream in higher education. In order to support this program, ETA has been implementing science fair project supported by Initiative Africa/SIDA. The project was of two phases, commenced on01 July 2010 and ended by 30 May 2011.
